Hi guys,

In memory of the recent passing of Pete Wells, I have decided to help raise money through Movember which raises money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Beyond Blue the national depression initiative.

Pete Wells was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2002 and died on 27 March 2006 from the disease.

In October 2005 he told The Age that all Australian men should have regular check-ups for the disease. "If they find it early, they can fix it. If I had gone in earlier, it would have saved me from a whole lot of pain and misery."

The Movember people gave me a little blurb to tell people which goes like this:

Quote
During Movember (the month formerly known as November) I'll be growin a Mo. That's right I'm bringing the Mo back because I'm passionate about changing men's health and the fight against male depression and prostate cancer. Why...

  - Depression affects 1 in 6 men...Most don't seek help. Untreated depression is a leading risk factor for suicide.

  - Last year in Australia 18,700 men were diagnosed with prostate cancer and more than 2,900 died of prostate cancer - equivalent to the number of women who die from breast cancer annually.

  - Men are far less healthy than women. The average life expectancy of males is 5 years less than females.

To sponsor my Mo please go to http://www.movember.com/au/donate, enter my registration number which is 83339 and your credit card details.

The money raised by Movember is donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and beyondblue - the national depression initiative, which will use the funds to create awareness, fund research and increase support networks for those men who suffer from prostate cancer and male depression.

For those that have supported Movember in previous years you can be very proud of the impact it has had and can check out the detail at: Fundraising Outcomes.

Thanks for your support

Doug

More info is available at www.movember.com.

So far I've raised a hundred bucks and Movember hasn't even started yet. I reckon it's a pretty good cause. If you think so too and you've got access to a credit card, it's pretty simple to donate.

Oh yeah and you get to see me look like this...

Cheers boys and girls!

Good on you mate.

I hate to sound like im kissing arse but I think its really nobel to show some initiative and get behind stuff like this. Even if its just for shits and giggles, a hundred or so dollars to a joint like Beyone Blue is well done. Hats off to you bud.

As an incentive to sponsor Doug, and in turn raise some more awareness about prostrate cancer and also depression, I've decided for everyone who donates $50 or more will get a free cd of their choice from Deadset Music. Simply put 'Send me a free cd' in the message section when you donate your $50 to Doug and he'll pass on your email and name to me.

Not only do I think it's awesome that Doug will experience certain ridicule for his soon to be facial hair, I believe that these are really important issues which men shouldn't ignore and its a cause well worth supporting.

A lot of people still see depression as being some form of weakness (especially amongst the male population) and there is that line of thought that goes 'Just snap out of it, shit happens, deal with it..'
But it's not always as easy as that, and that line of thinking will usually just make the situation worse. Depression is a very real problem, it's not just having a bad day or being in a bad mood. It takes a strong person to admit they may be depressed, not a weak one...

Okay rant over!

There was a bit of action at the beginning then dead silence on the Movember front.

$240 is still pretty respectable i guess. Still 30 days to go.

that's a good cause indeed! my grandpa suffers from the same disease. well, he's very old (he's in his 80s) and the doc told us he might save him a couple of years if he'd castrate him  Huh or something  Roll Eyes. I refused at once. not because I don't love him and wouldn't like him to live some more, but that thing would phsyicologically kill him. he's a peasant, and still at this age, he works the land at the country, every day waking up early in the morning etc etc I don't want him to risk to go on a couple of years not a "man enough". I know him too well that is he has to pass over, he wants to do it as God left him (yeah, he's religious!), still doing what he knows best, working the land his father left him blah blah
Well, I can't donate any money at the moment because we have recently moved into our new home and need a shit load of cash to do stuff, you know. But I tell you what, when Fiona orders our mag's 2nd issue, I'll see to it we offer a smaller price and maybe she can add a few bucks to final price that would be donated to this cause.   Tongue
as for the mo, I used to have one, my girl didn't like it  Undecided makes me lood too old, she said  Roll Eyes damn, I thought it made me tougher haha the same with glasses.. no they don't make you look more intelligent hahaha so now I wear them only in the house when watching tv lol hmmm she might be reading this so I gotta say "women know better" and then I get a good cooked meal  Grin

I have a friend that got MS and I always donate to MS now.
