Melbourne, Australia
Now this isn't so much a review of one particular gig, it's more a combination of 2. The first experience I had of seeing the Dayglo Abortains play was on Saturday afternoon at an underage gig at the arthouse, sober, running a stall and having to go outside for a smoke. All up not the greatest environment for a rawkous punk band, although it was a good opportunity to see the gig sober and to remember it. Which I can't say so much about the later encounter, where I was extremely hammered and remember very little.

So anyway, supporting bands on the Saturday afternoon were Homewreckers, No Idea and H-Block 101. I have only managed to see the Homewreckers play maybe twice before, so I was quite looking forward to seeing them again, and they didn't disappoint. Beats me why these girls don't play more gigs more often, maybe they have their reasons, but whatever they are they ain't good enough!

The Dayglos played a pretty damn good gig. Considering the average age of the audience was about 14 and all very reserved and quiet and the most movement I saw was from Dik who's mohawk could see bobbing around at the front. But of course the docile crowd copped enough slack and abuse from Dayglos frontman Cretin?. Which livened them up for a moment or two.
Maybe they were all intimidated by the vulgar and sometimes quite disturbing shenanigans going on up on stage. The masturbation of wooden poles and the continual discussion about women, sex and booze. A truly wholesome afternoon for these young kids. One youngster has been quoted as saying "The Dayglos Abortions bought the comedy from Canada to The Arthouse, Melbourne. i thought they were aussie for a second. It was basically a bunch of dirty, old, truckie-type men playing old-school tunes to rock out the punkers" (Tom, Essendon). And that pretty much summed it up. In a weird kinda way.
All up  a fantastic live show which is sure to offend someone, as all good live shows should, topped off by infectious punk being belted out LOUD and by a group of 4 crazy blokes who are obviously having a ball of a time.

I'm quite sure something similar could have been said about the gig that night again at the arthouse, although I was way to pissed to remember. We got the just before the Dayglo's played, and can only seem to recall the pot of beer I was drinking and at some point going to the bar to get another. If anyone can remember what the night was like, drop us an email and let us know.
