PERTH WA @THE SWAN HOTEL
Well , yet another Punk / Ska
outfit on the scene , and with quite a loyal following at that , Behind The
Eight Ball have been recognised in Perth in all musical circles as having much
talent . Judging by the crowd that
goes to see them ( this is coming from a Skin who likes the 60's version of Ska
best ) many of who are older than the band itself , they are fun to watch
. Parts of their songs
where they stop playing " Punk with Horns " and play original Ska
breaks that they themselves have written ,sounds bloody brilliant , impressive
maybe !! But when the ska stops and the rapping starts , it's time to grab ya
smokes and beer and head outside for a chinwag . Most of this bands songs sounds similar to
each other , and if they wanted to go in the direction they are heading in what
could break things up a bit during their gigs and also give the band a bit of
dimension is a couple of ska-only songs .
Anyways , word is a record
label has " bought them a drink " so maybe if things develope for
this band , those on the East Coast may hear of them sometime in the future .
For the Ska purists on the West
Coast though , ( which I suspect would include those reading " Aussie
Skins " ) , watch out for the new version/s of Special Brew , that great
drinking / ska Perth band which will
bring a form of music back to a city that is crying out for it .
