Destructors 666/Dirty Love -'Lex Talonis'

Just as well for these guys I didn’t review this first time I listened to it. It struck me as derivative crap with a nice Descendents-like bass thing going on here and there, and that’s about it. The intervening months have changed that opinion somewhat. The singer doesn’t shit me to tears now.

It’s still obviously derivative, but what the fuck isn’t these days? Yeah Dirty Love obviously like Jap girl-punk, and quite probably the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Everyone needs a hobby I guess. They’re alright. The blurb that comes with the album says they are “punked up rock n’ roll that straddles your musical lap and rubs up and down while lifting ya wallet”. Maybe that was what annoyed me in the first place.

Destructors 666 carry on as usual. Something old, something new, something borrowed, and something crap. Can’t help but like ‘em however. I bothered to check out their website a little while ago after having reviewed half a dozen releases of theirs with no idea what to make of ‘em. It helped a bit.

D666 have been around forever and are from the UK. They pump out splits and albums like the clappers. There’s a cheeky old fart attitude that carries them nicely. On this outing they do an old song, a new song, and a decent cover of the Ramones’ “Chinese Rocks”. Not much more to say really.
