Argy Bargy
'The Likes of Us'
Captain Oi! 2008
Brand new studio album released on both Cd and very nice Picture Vinyl through Captain Oi!. I am loving this album at the moment, I'd almost go so far as to say it is their best release. If you like tradiitional sounding Oi! along the vein of Cock Sparrer, 4-skins etc then you have probably already come across Argy Bargy, but if for some reason you haven't then you really should check them out. With the legendary Watford Jon on vocals and Daryl Smith from Cock Sparrer on guitar you already know the quality of this band.
This album has 14 catchy tracks, all as good as one another. There is a new version of 'One More Drink' which was done as an acoustic type track on the split '100% Thug Rock' they did with Discipine. First off I thought they had cheated and had just added an old track onto a new album, but then it kicked into a more Oi! sounding and I realised it was a different version. I wasn't too keen on it, as I really like the old version, but it has grown on me and I actually quite like it now. Still like the old version better though... There are a few surprises in the way of sound throughout. "I'll Be There For You" has an almost Agnostic Front type hardcore chorus to it, one of those chanting/anthem sounds, works really well and is one of my favourite tracks.
"Same Old Story" has an almost Living End type sound to it, but with an OI! twist. Awesome song, realy catchy and another sing a long anthem to add to the other 13 on the album. Pretty much all tracks on this album are awesome. The only thing that annoys me is in "Same Old Story" where they do that cut off into silence for a second. At first I thought the Cd was fucking out, but then realised it was done on purpose. I'm kinda used to it now though.
This one goes in the pile with Cock Sparrers new one 'Here We Stand' . Actually I think I am enjoying this one more than the new Cock Sparrer, well, they are on par anyway. Well worth getting, and the vinyl is really nice too. Typical Captain Oi! pressing, high quality, awesome artwork and really thick vinyl.
