Badlands
When Angels are Crucified
Rebellion Records 2008

Finally, after a long wait, Badlands are back and have released this new studio album through Rebellion Records. The sound is slightly different on this one compared to the last albums. I can't quite pick how, but it is perhaps a bit more uptempo. From what I can gather the band is made up of a few new members, so maybe that explains the difference in sound. One thing which is very noticeable is the drum sound. Anyone who has read any of my reviews, knows I don't go into the finer details of instrument sound, mainly because I am a listener, not a player, but the drums definitly sound different. Apparently it is a double kick or something.

Anyway, I like it, as I do with all Badlands albums. I tend to really get into their acoustic tracks too. This album has 2 thrown in, 'Killing Time' and 'They won't baptize me'. Both are really awesome, Victor Nefkens has a great voice which sounds just as good doing acoustic numbers as it does doing the more rock ones.

To describe what they sound like is kinda hard. I guess you could call them streetpunk/rock, but not in the same way as you think of streetpunk/rock such as Discipline etc, but it is similar, maybe a bit more 'rock' than streetpunk/rock. Yeah that just confused things more really. Your best bet would be to go to their Myspace page and listen to a few tracks and work it out for yourself. I love this band.
