Destructors 666/ The Ruined – 777

This split outing is aimed fairly and squarely at Misfits meet the Damned territory. It lands somewhere in the vicinity, I guess. M’kay.

The Ruined start out very promisingly. A nice thumping bass-line, decent vocals, booming drums, but when the chorus kicks in all is lost. It disintegrates into cheesy eighties sounding cock-rock. It’s a shame, because the rest of Poison Ivy, the opening tune, is solid. The Dead Are After Me follows this keeping up the eighties hard rock/melodic metal theme, with a definite punk-ish edge. They don’t pull it off with quite the same panache as, say, Poison Idea, but they’re certainly listenable.

Destructors 666 continue belting out tongue-in-cheek dark rock. There’s no doubt these guys can do what they set out to. Graveyard Stomp in particular is a rollicking piss-take of all that is horrorbilly, and it’s done to perfection. If you like their other shit, you’ll like this. It’s a couple of songs you won’t find on the (previously reviewed) album, and they’re not shit.
