'Many were killed, few were choosen'
Rowdy Farrago Records
D666 are about as satanic as Sid Vicious was a nazi for that infamous swazi t-shirt. That is, not bloody much. Thank fuck. Plenty of bizarre Marilyn Manson meets Bad Religion imagery in and on the sleeve, but it all seems a bit irrelevant to the music, which is growing on me. Still, even as a piss-take, the whole dark/ alien/ biblical thing is overblown and weird. Whatever.
I’ve heard a couple of split eps by these guys and hadn’t made my mind up either way. But this album is pretty good. I keep wanting to say punk rock, but that’s not right. More like punked out rock and roll. The singer sometimes reminds of Lemmy, and there’s plenty of 70's/80’s style big guitar going on. They have a definite knack for catchy rock tunes with a raw edge. It’s not street-punk or OI! but has the same lack of production wankery. A definite tongue-in-cheek humour running through the album doesn’t hurt either. Yeah it’s definitely worth a listen.
