Anti - Hippie Fanzine
Issue #1 (in English)
by Tim (Finland)
I haven't reviewed a fanzine for a while. Probably because there aren't
so many around now, or none that I get anyways! But I got this one
today from Tim in Finland so here are my thoughts on it...
For the first issue this fanzine has a lot of potential. I am a bit
unsure as to where a few of the 'articles/interviews' start and finish,
due to the layout and headings being a bit confusing, although the
content is really good. There is a great write up on the Aggrolites
which is very well writen and makes a nice change from the stock
standard interview formats which most zines (including aussieskins!)
seem to stick to. It's not too long and not too short and gives those
who haven't heard the Aggrolites a good insight into what the band is
about and what sound they have.
The fanzine is stated as being non political which I think is a good
thing, and perhaps I am being a bit picky but I wouldn't expect to find
an article on 'Black Punk History' in a non political fanzine. To be
fair the article didn't go into the whole right vs left, black vs white
debate, but I feel that if you are truly staying non political then it
is best to avoid any kind of segregation, be it in a positive or
negative way. Perhaps in a future issue there will also be a 'white
punk history' aswell.
Two interviews, one with Klasse Kriminale from italy and Last Laugh
from Finland. Both good interviews with a good intro letting you know
who the band are. There is also a 'Skinhead Way of Life' which at first
I thought was written by the editor Tim, but I think it was by a guy
called Ady. Nice little short article on why this guy became a skin and
what music etc he is into.
Quite a few reviews taken from aussieskins. Which Tim emailed me about
and asked ages ago, refreshingly he has actually made a note at the end
of where they came from! You would be surprised the amount of people
who either blatantly take reviews and either pass them off as their own
or just don't even credit where they came from. So good one Tim!
All up, this is a fantastic first issue. Looking forward to seeing many
more issues. It's obviously been printed off, not photocopied, which
makes it clear and easier to read. Maybe a bit of work needs to be done
with the layout, as like I mentioned earlier it is a tad confusing in
some spots as to where one article ends and the next one starts.
