The Blood

False gestures for a devious public
Captain Oi! (2005 re-press)

Here we have another great release from the Captain Oi! label. This is a 21 track CD, which is the full original album plus ten bonus songs from compilations, demos and album out-takes.

The Blood were a band in the 80’s from England (and have recently reformed im told). They play Punk music with a slight nod towards Oi! on some of the tracks. Most of their songs are quite fast paced and they sound along the same lines as Vicious Rumours. I have to say, before this was released I had never heard of, or anything by them but thought that I would buy it anyway.

You know when you buy a CD and there is one or two songs which alone, make it worth buying?……well this has got about ten of them. The stand out tracks for me include “Done some brain cells last night”, “Mesrine”, “Joys of noise”, “Parasites in paradise” “Such fun” etc. Throughout the CD there are so many moment to look forward to such as the rockin guitars with slightly odd but funny lyrics on “Sewer brain”, the bass at the start of “Sucker”, the cracking lead guitar on “Waste of flesh and bone”, the amazing guitar intro in “Parasites in paradise” and probably best of all, the long build up to the explosive chorus of “Mesrine”. These lads really are a step up when it comes to songwriting, the CD is quite varied and always interesting.

To round off the package, the CD booklet contains a history of the band, a couple of photos and all the lyrics. This CD will obviously sit well with people who are into Punk and/or Oi! If you are into bands like Vicious Rumours then this CD is for you. If you don’t like “Such fun” then I think there is something wrong with you. Rating 9/10
