Taken from a MySpace Bulletin.

Hi everyone, Some of you may have read a previous bulletin about Jay and Megan that were hit by a car believed to have run a red light out the front of a Bulldog Spirit show at the Arthouse last night. To help out in a small way, there is a benefit gig being organised on Saturday 18 November at the Birmingham Hotel on Smith St in Fitzroy. As yet the line up outside of Bulldog Spirit is to be confirmed, but all bands are playing for free with money going to their assistance. So far a number of Melbourne punk bands have indicated their willingness to support the show. If you feel you can help out in any way, please do not hesitate to contact Bulldog Spirit at www.myspace.com/pridestrengthhonour. If you are from a business that may have anything to contribute for a raffle to help raise money, that would be especially gratefully received. A solid line up with a flyer will be coming soon. Keep your eyes peeled. Please rebulletin any info to your friends list in order to get the best circulation possible to help these people out. They are good people and have helped out a lot of others in their time. Remember, if we don’t look out for each other, no one else will. Thanks Doug (Bulldog Spirit) |
So if you are in melbourne I hope you can get down to show your support. Jay is a great supporter of Deadset Music and local music, so lets show him and Megan some support back! Thought I would also copy and paste this from one of Doug's Myspace bulletins to let people know what happened and a bit more background on the benefit show

As you are probably aware, I sing for a band called Bulldog Spirit. Leaving the Arthouse tonight after watching a Bulldog Spirit show, two friends and long time Bulldog Spirit supporters, Jay and Megan were struck by a car believed to have run a red light. You may know Jay and Megan from working in the Smoke Dreams store on Flinders Street which sells a lot of band merchandise. I first met Jay when I first moved to Melbourne from Canberra. I walked downstairs into the shop and he was playing Bulldog Spirit on the shop stereo and I struck up a friendship with him immediately. Recently I was talking to him about playing some double bass on a solo project I am working on. Megan was wearing a home made Bulldog Spirit patch on the back of her jacket from a t-shirt that I gave to her at our first show back that was miles too big. I know they have helped out people in Melbourne’s punk community on a personal level and were also big supporters of Fiona’s Deadset music distro (www.deadsetmusic.net) Tonight they were lying in the middle of Queensbury Street out the front of the Arthouse near a car that had two holes in its shattered windscreen from the impact of their heads hitting the glass. Police blocked the road and ambulances took them away. At this stage I am unaware of the full extent of their injuries, but it is safe to say that they were fairly serious. To help out with any costs that they may incur, I am organizing a benefit show to raise money to help out. Who knows, sometimes just having a television in your room in long term hospital stays can make a difference, maybe they’ll need help with rent or bills while they are off work. All I know is that in times like these every little bit helps. Some bands have already rallied to the cause such as Marching Orders, Slick 46 and Wot Rot and it’s only been a couple of hours. When more news comes to hand, I’ll send out a further bulletin or keep your eyes peeled for flyers in the usual places. Thanks for reading. Doug |
