Marching Orders / Alternate Action 7" Split
Longshot Music
2006

This split is the debut 7” for Canadian Oi! boys Alternate Action. Opening the proceedings is “Keep Running” – a fast, punchy number with an anthemic chorus that will have you singing along before too long (and not just because of the lyrics printed on the inner slip). “Dead End Street” quickly follows and keeps up the tempo set by “Keep Running”. The lyrics to both songs don’t exactly cover new ground, but they are singing about universal issues and the songs are catchy and substantial and I’d rather hear what they’re singing about than any commercial crap. With more releases planned, I’m looking forward to what Alternate Action put out in future. (www.myspace.com/alternateaction)

Marching Orders have also contributed two songs to this Longshot Music release and, as we’ve come to expect from Melbourne’s premier Oi! band, both songs are awesome. Hard-hitting and just plainly fucking awesome, “Traitor” and “Nihilistic” have raised the bar from the songs on the band’s debut EP. As with Alternate Action, the lyrics aren’t groundbreaking, but they cover issues that are common in Oi!/punk culture without being particularly stereotypical.

A great split with great bands and well worth buying.
