The new album from Retaliator 'When Duty Calls' is due to be released
on Pure Impact sometime this century, or so we have all been told. If
you have liked their last album 'Against The Grain', then you are sure
to like this one.

Retaliator
When Duty Calls
Pure Impact (2005)
Now, I am a huge Retaliator fan, and pretty much love everything they
do, this new album is no exception. 12 Tracks all up, well there is 13
because there is a hidden track, but then that's hidden so it doesnt
count.
'Skinhead Rock' is the first track and a grouse choice for the opening
of the album, pretty much straight away gets stuck in your head and you
can't get rid of it, no matter how much you try...
'Beneath The Mask' is a more serious track, dedicated to all the scum
bag males in the world who think beating on their girlfriends is the
way to go. The lyrics are really well written and makes a fucking great
point.
"Hunting Chris Ryan' goes for a long time. Thats probably the only
thing that is kinda irritating, but a great song none the less. I'm not
sure if I am supposed to know who Chris Ryan is, if he is some soldier
guy in history or what not, but I know he is being hunted!
'The Great Unwashed' is a great track about dole bludging, banner
waving hippies the only thing I was a bit unsure of at first listen was
where the backing vocals go 'unwashed, unwashed..etc' it seemed to not
kinda fit, and sounded a bit odd, but I have stopped noticing that, so
it must have been the mood I was in.
The most interesting track on the album would have to be the cover of
Madness' 'Bed and Breakfast Man'. The first time I heard it was a very
strange experience, seeing as though I am a bit of a Madness fan, I
wasn't sure what to think. But I have decided to think that it is a
fucking good job.
I could go through song by song but these are my favourites, and the whole album is just as good.
Overall the album is exactly the quality you would expect from
Retaliator. Unlike a lot of other bands where their earlier releases
are usually the better ones, this latest release is just as good as
their earlier stuff, if not better. I am tied between this one and
'Against the Grain'.
It's just a damn shame that they have decided to call it a day...
