Review / Profile done by Ruth Rebel

Here`s a band that internationally has been underrated. I have followed the band in the 80`s, lost contact, but I found them again with a few different members churning out classy street rock.. Classy because it has style but still the rough edge of rock. Basic, honest street rock played with a real passion with their lyrics.. Music with lyrics you can sing too and choruses you can yell to. Firstly their split with Major Accident on DSS distro. I gotta say something on Major Accident because it`s both good street rock. This is a mature Major Accident, which is what I love because I`m a fuck'n old git!. They aren`t singing about being young, but breaking up in relationships and feeling old and outta control, about working for years and years in factory jobs, ghosts, and this last song, what a classic - representation not reality.... oh yeah!!! But i`m here to review the other half...welsh band Foreign Legion. They start off with a clockwork number and classic street rockchant jump .About giving the boss what for and Open Your Eyes... a good message and I love the drumming to this. all the songs are quite good. I know I can`t seem to pay out one song.....even my four year old twin boys love singing to them. Fake Gangster- yeah it pisses me, all this american gangster crap and they live in Beverly Hills or some shit. What about Ice T playing a cop on tv? Why did he bother with his  anti-cop songsI dunno. I`m getting off track, it happens to skins over 30... something you young un`s can look forward to......anyway this song is very catchy indeed and fun to sing with....especially when your working or cleaning a toilet out. Now to the later cd release what goes around comes around. The lads have always admired the Clash so I can imagine they were over the moon when Mick Jones produced it, the influence is there but they are all Foreign Legion  originals, some put on from earlier e.ps they did, but done over for the cd. I like the subjects they choose to turn into songs and the music isn`t trying to be anything it is not. So don`t expect speed metal or hardcore thrash or woteva cross over music is going on. You won`t get anything but street rock. remember it??? Basic,  intelligent and fun/sing-a-long band. That`s Foreign Legion to me. Songs about watching your hometown going down the drain, about stereotypes who want to spoil other`s fun, about emotions you can`t explain when people want you to. Fun songs on travelling with the wind, showing up to do a gig at a place and you find they don`t like punx, about being in the actual Foreign Legion, about street kid johnny. Give this a listen my friends... and what`s next for Foreign Legion? More touring and more music I hope.
