The Borderguards - Still Loyal

Started in the summer of 1999, The Borderguards exploded upon the Calgary scene with an abrasive mix of melody, rockabilly, blues and street punk. Singing songs about drinking, working, love gone wrong, loss, Canada and the world they live in, it was not long before the 4 piece street rock outfit found themselves headlining all over their home province of Alberta. To date the band has recorded a self titled 8 song CD which is now out of print and have been included on several compilations, both local and worldwide. Notable compilations are the Meathead Records World Wide Boxset and the Mayday Records compilation put out in 2002- 2003 as well as several local Calgary compilations.

After 6 years of countless shows, interviews, a past honorary piper going on to join Dropkick Murphys, line up changes, a riot at one of their shows that led to a mini movie on the internet ( go to http://www.netvandals.com/ and scroll down, you will need realplayer for this one) and over 50,000 hits since October 2002 on the bands website, The Borderguards have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with. Whether assertively standing tough against critics of the band or organising entire shows for charities such as the malaria endemic in Africa or the Tsunami disaster, The group has proven that they are an outfit that is not afraid to make a stand for what they believe in and as a band with social conscience. The University of Calgary's campus newspaper "The Gauntlet" has stated that the Borderguards will save the world with their brand of punk rock. In the words of Canadas own Virus zine; "The Borderguards are not Canadian punk rock, THEY ARE AWESOME." Steve Smith of Red Alert fame has said that the are a great band with a great site.

After working with several drummers during 2003-2004 the band is proud to welcome hard hitting replacement Jason Ohlhauser aboard as a permanent member. It is full steam ahead once more for the 4 Borderguards and they are showing no signs of letting up, slowing down or looking back. 2005 will prove to be a busy year for them; a new album on the way, the promise of more shows around Western Canada, imminent label interest, as well as a couple of surprises in store for those who follow the band. Nevermind the posers, fuck fashion and kick over the elitists. Here come The Borderguards. 'Nuff said.

The new album will be called "Boots, Booze and tattoos" and the band is very impressed with the sound of it thus far. besides the album, the Borderguards are slated to appear on many new compilations worldwise this year, notable ones include an upcoming compilation with Roddy Morenos relaunching of Oi! records and an upcoming Insurgence Records compilation as well as possibly Ghetto Rock Records from Belgium.
