Scottish Oi!
* The last album ‘Divided From the Masses' was a ripper of an
album, now you are in the process of recording another. Whats to be
expected from this one? Ok! Glad that you liked the first
cd. The new one is called "The Storm Of Discontent" and will be
hitting everyone next year, we begin recording February. There's
13 tracks and they deal with loads of subjects, some covered on the
last album and some new ones. New tracks include
Needle Breed: Junkie fucks beware With a Vengeance: yeah we're an angry bunch! British Oi is fighting back: You can't keep us down The Final Terror: watch the skies folks
Expect a similar sound to the Retaliator split.
* Majority of your songs are about hard hitting subjects such as
paedophiles and low-lifes , although you manage to stay away from
politics such as left vs right issues. Was this a conscience decision
or just something you don't care to sing about? A lot of our
songs touch on politics but subjects that we feel strongly about.
The whole left vs right thing never gets near any Bakers Dozen songs as
we basically couldn't give a fuck anyway.
* What
drives you to write songs about people who screw you over, such as
‘Hell‘s Your Place‘ and paedophiles as in ‘Rule 43‘ and ‘Hide Behind
The Numbers‘? Rule 43 was basically about how society cares
for the wrong people. I work in a job where l deal with
Paedophiles, junkies, workshy bastards and people who couldn't
give a fuck about Britain and basically want a free ride
everyday. The law gives these bastards absolute priority over
decent working class people and more than often tries to keep them
down, I can't have my say to the Edinburgh council but I can have my
say to skinheads and punks worldwide through guys like you. Hells
your place is about those who are obsessed over religion and Hide
Behind the Numbers was a story about my mate Brian who got continuous
dodgy phone calls from some spineless cunt.
* How's the Scottish Skinhead/Oi! Scene at the moment? Is there much of difference between it and the English scene? Not
a lot happens in Britain as a whole just now but people certainly try,
it just never seems to work out. I take part in the British
scooter scene which seems to have its shit together if you want to have
a good time get along to a rally.
* You are often compared to Retaliator, do you guys have some friendly rivalry going on, or is it a lot more nasty? They
are a shower of bastards! (only kidding guys). Retaliator
have to be one of the best bands that we have ever had the pleasure of
playing with and I only wish that we could do it more often.
Retaliator and On File REALLY helped us out and we will be eternally
grateful to them for as long as Bakers Dozen exists.
* Does it at all bother you that people make this comparison? I'm
delighted that people compare us to them as they are one of my
favourite bands and they have a sound that is quite untouchable.
* Are there any gigs you've played, or been to as a punter, which have stood out as the best? Seeing
Agnostic Front on the One Voice tour in 1992 was a blast as was seeing
Condemned 84 for the first time. I've seen loads of bands lately in Germany that made me rush out and get their cds.
* Which bands do you recommend people have at least one release from in their collections? Everyone should have a copy of The Good The Bad and The 4 Skins as it's one of the best skinhead albums ever. Other great bands to check out include Kampzone, Velorene Jungs and Toxpack all from Germany.
* I am assuming Bakers Dozen isn't a full-time job, how do you all spend your days? Darius works for the council, Aldo works for a big insurance company, Thermos is a carpet fitter and I work with Edinburgh's homeless (also for the council).
* Now there ain't 13 of you in the band, so where did the name come from? That's a tricky one Fiona! Theres a lot of different
answers to this question but the one I usually go with is that the guy
who came up with it was in an early version of the band and I don't see
him much now, he would be the man to tell you.
* Apart from the album coming up, what else is in store for the Bakers Dozen future? We
just got back from a tour of Germany and had an almighty great time and
hope to get back over when the new cd comes out. The album will
keep us very busy as will the fact that two of us have kids (one of
whom has just been born). We hope to get all over the place when
the new cd comes out and we hope that our good friend Fiona will pay
for flights for all of us to come over and play in Australia for two
weeks solid.
